DASC represents in Costa Rica

Mike Flowers is a huge asset to the DASC community. Every year, Mike directs the Dillsburg Dual Shoot Out (DDSO) which brings thousands of families from around the region to the Dillsburg area for a weekend of soccer. Last year, close to 300 teams played 991 matches and filled more than 950 hotel rooms.

Beyond soccer in Costa Rica

However, Mike generously devotes his time to more than soccer. Mike and his son, Evan, recently joined the Celebration Community Church from Dillsburg on a trip to Costa Rica to help an indigenous community demolish and replace a Sunday school building for their kids. The school's foundation was rebuilt and steel posts were erected to provide the frame. In less than 5 days, the old building was demolished, new concrete floor poured, walls framed, roof built, and siding added—all before handing the keys of the new building over to the pastor. The crew also helped renovate bathrooms and painted the main church.

During downtime, Mike had a chance to share with locals a love of soccer that already flourishes in Costa Rican culture. He shared DASC medals, soccer balls, and some DDSO shirts with kids in the community. It's funny to think a piece of DASC has a home in rural Costa Rica.

At the end of the week, the kids of the community made at least two things clear: they were ecstatic to have a brand new home for Sunday school and overjoyed that their upcoming fùtbol matches would be played with a brand new DASC soccer ball!
