As an under 8 program we would like to make sure
that the following soccer skills are instilled in our under 8 players before
they progress into our under 9 program.

Fundamentals
1. Throw Ins
Make sure that each player
understands how to do a proper throw
in.
A. Feet together
B. Heels on the ground
C. Both hands on the ball, pull ball straight
behind the head, and release the ball straightforward.
2. Dribbling
Each player should understand the basics of dribbling the ball.
A. Using the inside of either foot
the player should push the ball forward.
B. Keep the ball close, not too far
out in front.
3. Kicking/Shooting
Player should understand the basics of shooting or
kicking the ball.
A. Ball should be addressed by the
top of the laces of either the left or right foot.
B. While leaning over the ball to
keep the kick or shot closer to the ground.
C. No “TOE” balls
4. Positions
Under 6 is 3 vs 3 with no goal keeper
Try and teach the basics of positions on the field. Try and keep
the terminology Simple. Examples: (under 8)
Offense: Left
Center
Right
Defense:
Defender
Goal Keeper
(Under 6 is the same but no Goal Keeper)
5. Goal and Corner Kickers
Your player may not understand where the ball is placed during a
goal or corner kick, but they should understand which direction to kick
the ball during each situation.
Goal Kick - A goal kick is awarded to the
defending team when the attackers kick the ball out of bounds over the
end line.
Corner Kick - A corner kick
is awarded to the attacking team when the defenders kick the ball out
of bounds over the end line.
6. Sportsmanship
A. No pushing or kicking another player.
B. Help another player if they are hurt or injured.
C. It’s not important who won or lost; it’s who had the most fun!!!!!!!
